Product description (quoted from manufacturer)
The fifth installment in the ultra-realistic arthropod figure series, sculpted by Shinobu Matsumura!
[Matsumura Memo]
A figurine of the Japanese Camponotus, the largest and most familiar species of ant in Japan.
The figure is based on a fairly large type of worker ant.
Modeled after large worker ants, the size of which would be surprising even if seen in the wild, the compound eyes and body hair are realistically reproduced.
The head, abdomen, jaw and legs are all movable, allowing for a variety of poses.
The most distinctive feature of ants is that they form family groups.
The set includes two figures, so you can pose them to enjoy the ant-like scenes of them communicating with each other.
Additionally, eggs, which are essential for an ant "family," are also included, so when combined, you can recreate life inside a camponotus' nest.
[Explanation of the Japanese Camponotus]
It is one of the largest species of ants in Japan, with queen ants reaching 18mm and large worker ants reaching 14mm.
They are distributed widely throughout Japan, except for the Amami and Okinawa regions, and prefer to build their nests in sunny, open areas from mountains to plains.
Worker ants come in a variety of sizes, from small ones to large ones with big heads, but there seems to be no clear division of roles such as "large worker ants = soldier ants."
Ants, who live in pitch-black nests, communicate mainly by smell and touch, and are known to rely on smell and touch to distinguish between fellow ants in the same nest, care for eggs and larvae, and find the way to food sources.
